President Mugabe yesterday hailed the Zimbabwe Defence Forces for maintaining professionalism within the ranks.

At the graduation of 58 students who completed Joint Command and Staff Course Number 27 at the Zimbabwe Staff College, the Commander-in-Chief urged the ZDF to guard and maintain the practice jealously.

“As Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, I note with utmost pride, the indelible mark of professionalism that is associated with our defence forces officers, both locally and internationally.

“They have developed a commendable legacy that should continue to be jealously protected and nourished by today’s graduands,” said President Mugabe.

“Let me, once again, express my special appreciation to the People’s Republic of China for providing training staff to the Zimbabwe Staff College.

“The military technical assistance we are receiving from the People’s Republic of China is ample demonstration of the all-weather friendship that continues to flourish between our two countries.

“The Zimbabwe Staff College continues to strength its strategic partnership with other institutions of higher learning in the country, particularly with the University of Zimbabwe.”

The President urged the college to continue seeking mutual co-operation with local academic institutions of higher learning.

The 11-month staff course drew military officers from Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

The curriculum included courses in Geo-Political Studies, Civil-Military Relations, and National History and Culture.

President Mugabe said by incorporating students from regional countries, the ZDF was fostering good relations with the respective military arms.

“Such cordial relations existing between the ZDF and their counterparts in the region, has resulted in reciprocal confidence that SADC countries have cultivated in our defence training institu- tions.

“I am confident that the benefits of such symbiotic relations, cultivated amongst regional defence forces through joint training programmes, are likely to extend to other forms of co-operation, including collective regional security and economic integration.”
