PRESIDENT Mnangagwa recently commissioned the Chinhoyi High Court after the project had been stalled for many years, underlining the Second Republic’s commitment to improve access to justice.

Officially commissioning the new one-stop complex, which houses both the lower and upper courts, the President said incompetence has no room in the new dispensation.

“The fact that we are gathered to witness the successful completion of this project signifies my administration’s resolve and commitment to deliver on its development oriented policies and programmes.

“The era of starting projects that never get completed is long gone.

“The culture of action, success and excellence is the bedrock of the Second Republic value system and ethos, all projects underway will therefore be timely completed so that our people can enjoy the modern and quality services and goods,” he said.

He challenged employees to pull their weight.

“Everyone must justify his or her employment in the particular capacity he or she occupies. Our actions must speak louder than our words in order to make Vision 2030 a reality to all citizens,” the President said.

The establishment of Chinhoyi High Court, he added, is a milestone towards efficient service delivery.

“Court infrastructure and the effective and unimpeded access to the courts are some of the vital elements in improving justice service delivery. Furthermore, it is imperative that the courts are closer to the people, hence the establishment of the High Court here in Chinhoyi is a fulfilment of this requirement as distances travelled by litigants and witnesses will be reduced.”

The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works handed over the ultra-modern one-stop court to the Judicial Service Commission, which was represented by Chief Justice Luke Malaba.

The new court will be using an integrated case management system, a platform that will connect all institutions in the justice service delivery chain.

The Chinhoyi court complex becomes the second biggest in the country after Harare Magistrates Court.

The complex has modern amenities that include virtual meeting facilities, a state-of-the-art clinic run by Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) and video-conferencing facility.
