AS the nation prepares to commemorate National Youth Day on Friday, all roads lead to Bulawayo, where this year’s celebrations will highlight the critical role of youth in driving Zimbabwe’s development agenda.

Among the key organisations set to play an active role in the proceedings is My Africa Child and Youth Development Organisation (MACYDO), an advocate for youth empowerment and economic inclusion.

In alignment with the Government of Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, MACYDO is committed to creating opportunities, platforms and networks that equip young people with the skills, knowledge and support needed to become key players in the country’s economic transformation.

Speaking ahead of the event, MACYDO chief executive officer Ms Vimbai Butawu emphasised the importance of education and vocational training in ensuring young people are employable and self-sufficient.

“For Zimbabwe to achieve Vision 2030, we must ensure that young people have access to quality education, vocational training and entrepreneurship programmes. Equipping them with the right skills will not only empower individuals but also contribute to national economic growth,” said Butawu.

MACYDO is involved in bridging the skills gap by supporting initiatives that offer mentorship, funding opportunities and entrepreneurship training, ensuring that young people are not just job seekers but job creators.

Beyond economic empowerment, youth health also remains a top priority for MACYDO.

The organisation is advocating for youth-friendly healthcare services that address key issues such as substance abuse prevention, mental wellness and sexual and reproductive health.

“We have seen the devastating effects of drug abuse among our youth. At MACYDO, we stand for a zero-tolerance approach to substance abuse and are actively working to promote mental wellness initiatives,” Butawu added.

With the Government’s renewed focus on youth-led businesses, the organisation has been at the forefront of providing access to funding, mentorship and policy advocacy for young entrepreneurs.

The organisation continues to champion innovation, creativity and financial inclusion, ensuring that young people have the resources they need to launch and scale successful enterprises.

“Creating an enabling environment for start-ups and SMEs is critical to unlocking youth potential. We are committed to working with key stakeholders to develop policies that support young entrepreneurs and drive inclusive economic growth.”

By aligning with frontline efforts to achieve Vision 2030, the organisation is also playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of Zimbabwe’s young people.

“Our youth are the backbone of this nation. We must continue to create platforms that empower them, invest in their potential and support their ambitions. The future of Zimbabwe depends on the strength and vision of its young people,” said Butawu.

With excitement building for the National Youth Day celebrations in Bulawayo, MACYDO plans to actively participate in the day’s proceedings, engage young people, stakeholders and decision-makers to drive forward its mission of youth empowerment and economic transformation.
