Government has received cholera medicines and commodities worth over US$265 000 from various development partners.

Receiving the donations in Harare on Friday, Health and Child Care Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora said the supplies will play a crucial role in managing cholera cases.

“Today, we thank the Health Resilient Fund , United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Parcel Services Foundation and all the partners that contributed to this donation of cholera medicines and commodities worth US$265 000 that will go a long way to address case management of cholera cases,” he said.

Dr Mombeshora also acknowledged the support provided by UNICEF and other partners in preparing for the Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) campaign scheduled to take place from January 29 to February 2, 2024.

Reports indicate that all 10 provinces have reported cases, with the most vulnerable groups being children under the age of 15, constituting 31 percent of the reported cases, as well as children under the age of five, making up 14 percent of the cases.

As at January 24,2024, Zimbabwe had recorded a cumulative 20 446 cholera cases and 452 cholera-related deaths, resulting in a case fatality rate of 2,2 percent.
