Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube on Tuesday launched the Leadership Excellence in Africa’s Public Sector (LEAPS) Programme, which is set to enhance leadership in public financial management across Africa.

The initiative, spearheaded by the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), aims to equip senior officials from various public financial management institutions with the necessary skills to navigate today’s complexities.

Addressing delegates, Prof Ncube said the programme offered a unique opportunity for leaders to engage, learn, and lead with excellence, fostering a deep understanding of their roles in shaping the future of institutions and improving citizens’ lives.

“The goal is to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively address the challenges faced in public service delivery. The programme also features a variety of modules designed to enhance your leadership capabilities, alongside effective coaching and mentorship from esteemed leaders across Africa.

“Through participating in LEAPS, officials will be well-prepared to implement vital reforms and drive sustainable development initiatives that will benefit our institutions for better service to the communities,” he said

He also said the six-month leadership development journey, tailored to Africa’s unique context, covers essential topics such as self-leadership, team dynamics, organizational strategies and public financial management ecosystem.

Fifteen senior officials from Zimbabwe’s public financial management institutions have been selected for the programme.
