NEW: Zimbabwe intensifies digital inclusion drive for climate change

GOVERNMENT continues to roll out measures to promote digital inclusion to come up with innovative responses to challenges such as climate change and food insecurity.

This was said by ICT, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera during the 2024 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day commemorations in Madziwa on Friday.

“As we gather here today it is imperative that we recognise the transformative potential of digital innovation in addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges,” she said.

“From fighting climate change to eliminating hunger and poverty, innovative technologies have the power to drive meaningful change and create a more sustainable and prosperous world for all.”

Minister Mavetera said there were glaring digital gaps hindering innovation in Zimbabwe.

“Inadequate investment and digital skills leave many countries struggling to keep up with the rapid pace of technological advancement,” she said.

“It is essential that we work together to bridge this divide and ensure that no one and no place is left behind in the digital revolution.

“Through initiatives that support digital literacy, foster innovation, and promote access to affordable and reliable digital services, we are working to create an enabling environment for sustainable development through technology.”
