THE Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)’s Executive Committee has reiterated that the National League will go on despite concerns raised by the regions.

At a presser held at the association’s offices on Friday, ZIFA acting president Gift Banda said the interim Executive Committee for the National League will be made up of regional committee members.

The National League, which will run more like the Championship in England, is set to begin this year.

“As per the resolution of the Executive Committee, the association will go ahead with the National League starting in the 2023 season.

“While we are conscious of the concerns of some of our members, the Executive Committee will engage everyone and address their concerns,” said Banda.

He added that each region will second two members to the interim committee.

ZIFA have already sent invitations to the four regions that are supposed to provide three teams each to the National League.

The four teams that were relegated from the Premier Soccer League have also been invited to the National League.

The ZIFA Executive Committee also said it will adopt recommendations in the Restructuring Committee report in phases.

A workshop for ZIFA members will be held between February 24 and 25 to analyse the report.

“Other submissions from the ZIFA Executive Committee, members and stakeholders will be deliberated upon in an effort to come up with the best position for football,” said Banda.

One of the recommendations made by the Restructuring Committee is for ZIFA to amend their constitution, which stakeholders feel does not adequately cater for women’s football.
