ZIMBABWE’S representatives at the Africa Zone VI Beach Volleyball tournament, the Zambezi Amazons, have set their sights on a podium finish as they hope to bounce back in the remaining four legs.

The Amazons, represented by the duo of Vuyiswa Kimberley Dhlomo and Nyengeterai Danai Guyo, are currently ranked 14th after the first four legs of the competition.

They, however, failed to take part in the first leg of the tournament.

Zambezi Amazons coach, Robert Njerere, is confident that his charges will bounce back, and he has already set his sights on a podium finish.

“It is a work in progress,” said Njerere.

“The start was not an ideal one, especially for my girls missing the first leg due to injury, but that has not stopped us from aiming for gold. These girls are fighters.”

The Amazons coach said his team will continue practicing as they seek to be on the same fitness levels as the other teams, when the competition resumes next month in Zambia.

“I think the biggest undoing in the first round was our fitness levels,” he said.

“We will continue with our preparations for the first leg of the second round, which will be held in Zambia.

“Our target, starting with the Zambian leg, is to reach the semi-finals, as it will enable us to garner enough points to achieve our targets,” he said.
