YOUNG people should be included in decision-making processes, as their ideas can change the world, African Union Special Envoy for Youth Affairs, Ms Chido Cleopatra Mpemba has said.

Speaking during the Commonwealth Youth Forum in Rwanda, Ms Mpemba, who is a Zimbabwean, said youth empowerment is key to solving many global challenges.

“It is evident that young people have been driving technological advancements in many sectors, and championing social and political change around the world.

“We are living in unprecedented times. The pandemic has crippled many economies and presented us with novel challenges.

“While many of its effects are clear, it has also given young people an opportunity to showcase their creativity, resilience and their indispensability,” she said.

The Youth Forum, which is running under the theme: “Taking Charge of our Future”, is a platform for young people to discuss major issues impacting youths across the Commonwealth.
