A 36-year-old man from Uzumba has appeared before the Mutawatawa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.

It is the State’s case that Givemore Mutuwa preyed on a teenager who had gone to fetch firewood alone.

Mutawatawa magistrate Mr Edwin Marecha remanded Mutuwa in custody.

He will appear in court next week.

It is alleged that on July 9, 2022, at Chigubu Village, the complainant went to fetch firewood at a nearby bush alone.

The accused approached and held her hand before tripping her to the ground.

Her subsequent screams were muffled by the accused hand that was placed on the complainant’s mouth.

Mutuwa then went on top of the complainant, removed her clothes and raped her once. After the act, he told the complainant not to tell anyone about the incident.

The matter came to light on July 18, 2022 at around 1pm when the complainant decided to disclose the matter to her mother, who then accompanied her to Mutawatawa police to file a report, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The complainant was medically examined at Mutawatawa Hospital.

Mr Steven Malota represented the State.
