ZANU PF is optimistic that the visit by the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur, Ms Alena Douhan will uncover how the debilitating economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West have caused untold suffering to ordinary citizens.
Ms Douhan, the UN Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, will visit Zimbabwe from October 18 to 28.
Speaking at a press conference in Harare on Wednesday, the ruling party’s acting spokesperson, Cde Mike Bimha said Zimbabwe’s economic transformation has been slowed down by the sanctions.
“We welcome the UN Special Rapporteur Dr Douhan, who is coming to interact with our people to unpack the effects of sanctions.
“She will see that with the able stewardship of His Excellency and First Secretary of the party, President Mnangagwa, we could have doubled our efforts in transforming the economy had it not been the effects of sanctions,” he said.
