TRADITIONAL healers have added their voices to the condemnation of gender-based violence (GBV).

The world is currently commemorating 16-Days of Activism Against GBV.

The campaign, which kicked off on November 25, will end on December 10.

It is an annual international awareness crusade that advocates for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

Gogo Chihoro (born Memory Madamburi), a Harare-based traditional healer, castigated traditional healers that are protecting criminals who abuse women and children.

“As traditional healers, we have, in our midst, some people who are supporting perpetrators of gender-based violence by giving them traditional medicine that help them evade justice,” Gogo Chihoro said.

Mr Cuthbert Nyaruvenda, a traditional and faith healer, who is also the president of the Zimbabwe National Practitioners Association (ZINPA), said some traditional healers have a penchant for committing gender-based violence.

He said traditional healers must work closely with the police.

“Gender-based violence is a serious challenge that requires traditional healers to work together with the police.

“Traditional healers must promptly notify the police whenever they are approached by criminals that will be seeking help to evade justice after attacking women and girls,” Mr Nyaruvenda said.
