OVER 40 players drawn from the local tourism sector will next month engage the Middle East market, which is a lucrative and untapped market for Zimbabwe.

The engagement, set for March 5 and 6 will take place at the Business Connect Centre in Dubai.

At least 40 delegates drawn from 25 tourism operators and enablers will be meeting key players in the Middle East tourism market.

Apart from players drawn from the mainstream tourism sector, the event, which is dubbed “Visit Zimbabwe – Tourism Conference and Exhibition,” will also be attended by players in the aviation sector.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) acting chief executive officer, Mr Givemore Chidzidzi, said the meeting will go a long way in re-opening the tourism markets that were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This event marks the beginning of an exciting journey for the tourism sector as it signals the reopening of re-engagements with our key source markets after the pandemic.

“The Middle East is a market that has great potential and will bring high value to the different sectors of tourism,” Mr Chidzidzi said.

In the past few years, Zimbabwe has been gaining access into the Middle East market, with two airlines, the Emirates and Qatar Airways, reintroducing flights to Zimbabwe.

Mr Farai Chimba, the president of the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ), thanked Government for the efforts that it is making towards the revitalisation of the tourism sector.

“We appreciate the Government of Zimbabwe through the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry for affording the sector this great opportunity to engage with the markets,” he said.
