NEW: Sibling rivalry spills into court

A Harare man has turned to courts seeking a peace order against his younger brother over death threats and assault.

Pegan Chidhakwa appeared before the Harare Civil Court on Wednesday, filing for a peace order against his young brother, Craig Chidhakwa.

In his submissions, Pegan claims that his sibling’s behaviour has become increasingly violent.

“I’m now worried about my life and that of my nephew. He threatened to kill us, and I believe he is capable of doing it,” he said.

“He has no respect for me, despite the fact that I’m the one paying his school fees. His mother passed away, and I’ve taken on the responsibility of caring for him.”

In response, Craig did not deny the allegations of being violent, but said the problem started when his nephews started destroying his late mother’s property.

“I want them to stop using her belongings, but my elder brother has taken their side,” he said. “I didn’t have an altercation with him, but with my nephews.

“He is the one who removed me from the main house and forced me to move into our father’s cottage.”

Magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam granted the order and ordered Craig to desist from harassing and intimidating his elder brother.
