Chevrons coach Lalchand Rajput has been relieved of his duties and will be replaced by Zimbabwe Cricket coaching manager Dave Houghton.

The reshuffle was approved at a board meeting held during Zimbabwe’s final T20 International against Afghanistan at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday.

Rajput, who has overseen the Chevrons since 2018, will now assume the role of technical director.

Houghton takes over from Rajput with immediate effect.

ZC director of cricket Hamilton Masakadza confirmed the latest development.

“I would also like to thank Lalchand (Rajput) who has been in charge of the team for the past four years, an incredibly challenging period for our cricket,” said Masakadza.

“He will continue to be involved in our game as technical director and will provide invaluable support to the team.”

He believes the reshuffle will boost the national team technical set-up and change the team’s fortunes in the wake of defeats to lowly-ranked sides.

The 64-year-old Houghton, a former Zimbabwe captain and coach, will take charge ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers that will be held in the country next month.

“We are delighted to be bringing in Dave and we count ourselves fortunate and privileged to be able to appoint such a vastly experienced and highly respected head coach at a time we are looking to improve our on-field performances,” added Masakadza.

Before his latest appointment, Houghton was doubling up as ZC’s coaching manager and head coach at provincial side Mountaineers.
