DEFENDING champions Lahore Qalandars are sweating over the fitness of one of their chief bowlers, Rashid Khan, ahead of their Pakistan Super League qualifier against Multan Sultans on Wednesday.

Khan was hit on the helmet and had to retire during Qalandars’ 86-run loss to the Karachi Kings on Sunday.

Having already qualified for the playoffs, Lahore Qalandars rested their captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza.

Despite failing to chase down Karachi Kings’ 197 for seven total, the defending champions are likely to worry more about Khan’s injury than the defeat.

Khan has been instrumental with both bat and bowl during Qalandars’ quest to defend their title as the Afghanistan international has been one of their top wicket-takers all season.

The 24-year-old leg spinner is third on the top PSL wicket-takers with 15 scalps from eight matches.

Only Abbas Afridi and Ihsanullah, both of Multan Sultans, have more with 22 and 20 wickets, respectively.

With the bat, Khan has chipped in with 73 runs, often giving the defending champions a much-needed boost, together with Raza (198), down the order.

Rashid’s availability for Wednesday’s match remains uncertain, as Qalandars brace to square up against the powerful Multan Sultans in the qualifier.
