Poultry producers met in Harare this week to deliberate on innovative ways to promote small- to medium-scale commercial poultry production in Zimbabwe.

The meeting was organised by Technical Assistance to the Zimbabwe Agricultural Growth Programme (TA-ZAGP).

It ran under the theme “Can Collective Action by Small-Scale Poultry Producers Provide Solutions to the Challenges in the Poultry Sector? Experiences and Lessons from the Inclusive Poultry Value Chain (IPVC) Project.”

Through the programme, the Zimbabwe Agricultural Growth Programme (ZAGP) profiled various project approaches, concepts and innovations, and also shared successes, challenges and lessons.

Dr Reneth Mano, an agricultural economist with the Livestock and Meat Advisory Council (LMAC), said the meeting was an eye-opener.

“The meeting, which was an eye-opener, brought together all stakeholders in the poultry production sector. The deliberations were frank, fair and useful,” Dr Mano said.

The event brought together players in the country’s poultry value chain, among them representatives from the Zimbabwe Poultry Association (ZPA), LMAC and the Department of Veterinary Services, among others.

Representatives from banks, corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations also graced the event.
