Police have warned bus operators about flouting Covid-19 curfew regulations, saying this practice is fueling smuggling and spread of the disease.
The warning also comes in the wake of increasing cases of armed robbery attacks on cross-border buses.
Most of these attacks take place during the night.
“The ZRP is concerned with bus operators who are openly flouting the Covid-19 curfew order which runs from 22.00 hrs to 05.30 hrs, thereby promoting smuggling by some travelers and risk the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic yet borders are still closed by the Government for general travelers,” the police said in a statement.
“On November 28, 2021, at about 22.30 hrs an MBT bus with 66 occupants destined for Beitbridge was attacked by three unknown suspects who pretended to be passengers and armed with two unidentified pistols and a knife at 86 km along Harare-Masvingo Road.
“The suspects shot two people in the bus, stabbed another and stole cash worth US$7 367 and R167 050.
“Meanwhile, police will arrest anyone breaching Covid-19 regulations without fear or favour and the law will surely take its course.”
