Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Chivhu a fortnight ago, where a gang of three ransacked a house in Buckenhill and stole over 36 000 rand.

Ashley Moses Foster Dube was arrested on Sunday at Pickstone Mine, Chegutu, where police also recovered an AK47 rifle allegedly used during the robbery.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect is now in custody.

“The police arrested Dube (21) for an armed robbery case which occurred in Chivhu on January 16, 2022, in which he connived with two man, who are still at large, to steal at a house in Buckenhill while armed with an AK 47 rifle and knives.

“As they entered the house, they tied five complainants with shoelaces and threatened them with death while demanding cash.”

The suspects ransacked the house and stole cash amounting to 36 400 rand, US$970 and three cellphones.

“Taking advantage of the situation, two male juveniles who were in the house managed to sneak out of the house through the back door and alerted neighbours, who called the police.

“Police reacted swiftly and encountered the suspects who were about to get away in one of the complainants’ Nissan Caravan vehicle.

“The suspects fled, leaving the stolen vehicle at the gate.”

Police investigations, he added, led to Dube’s arrest at Pickstone Mine, Chegutu, and the recovery of the AK47 rifle, a magazine of 20 rounds which was buried in a bushy area in Chivhu.
