ZIMBABWE junior men’s handball goalkeeper Munyaradzi Mhlanga has called on fans to rally behind the team as they brace for the International Handball Federation Trophy Continental Phase tournament in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The event gets underway on Saturday and runs until November 6.
The team is in camp in Harare and is expected to fly out to the East African nation on Friday.
“We just need a little bit of motivation and support from the outside and our fans. With the preparations, I can’t complain. We have been facing difficulties with having long training camps (as a team).
“We had programmes were we given as individual players to work on the drills, skills, and weaknesses as a player.
“For me, it has been okay and for my teammates you can see the improvements to show the programme was working very well. Now, we just need to bond as a team like we are doing in camp,” said Mhlanga.
The 19-year-old was part of the youth (Under-18) team that lost to Zambia in 2022 and missed the ticket to compete at the previous continental tournament held last year.
The event caters for juniors and youths.
“This means a lot. I feel grateful for this opportunity. I have been growing in terms of my game since 2022 up to now. Now, we have qualified for the continental phase,” he said.
