President Mnangagwa has challenged Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) to drive development in surrounding communities, the province and country.

Speaking at the university’s first-ever graduation, President Mnangagwa, who accepted his installation as the institution’s chancellor, said the institution should embody the philosophy of Education 5.0, which requires that communities housing universities should benefit from their presence.

“Let us, as Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences, rise above the ‘unknown’ and inspire surrounding communities, Manicaland province and the nation as a whole by defining our niche and comparative advantages in the academic, science, innovation and technology space,” said President Mnangagwa.

The institution, he said, should apply critical thought and help the country in tackling challenges such as climate change, among other pressing needs.

“To this end, the university must expand its faculties and offer programmes and courses capable of propelling our national development agenda.

“Your strategic thrust in programme development must ensure that no field of study in applied sciences is deemed outside your purview.

“You are not a numbers, but a quality university,” he said.

Located in Manicaland, MSUAS was established as a specialist institution that focuses on agriculture and other related applied sciences.
