AN inaugural half-marathon to honour the famous 1966 Chinhoyi battle heroes was launched in Chinhoyi on Sunday.
The half-marathon is also aimed at promoting liberation heritage tourism.
The event was organised by Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) through the School of Hospitality and Tourism in partnership with the Students and Youth Working on reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT).
One hundred and twenty-five athletes participated.
Guest speaker, Nyaradzo group chief executive officer Mr Philip Mataranyika, who was represented by the sales and marketing manager, Mr Darlington Mabvure, said the company will continue to sponsor the Varlour Run in honour of the seven heroes.
The event ran under the theme “#I’m the eighth hero.”
The seven heroes, who fearlessly engaged the minority white regime military on April, 28, 1966, are David Guzuzu, Arthur Maramba, Christopher Chatambudza, Simon Chingozha Nyandoro, Godfrey Manyerenyere, Godwin Dube and Chubby Savanhu.
