ALL is set for the launch of the Presidential War Veterans Fund and borehole drilling scheme today at Dewedzo High School in Rusape, Manicaland province, as the Second Republic continues to empower the country’s liberation fighters.

High-profile dignitaries attending the event include Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere, who is also the Makoni West Member of Parliament; Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza; Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Monica Mavhunga; and Secretary of War Veterans in the ZANU PF Politburo Douglas Mahiya.

The programme, spearheaded by the Special Presidential Investment Adviser to the United Arab Emirates Dr Paul Tungwarara, aims to provide interest-free loans to war veterans, enabling them to start businesses and improve their livelihoods.

US$150 000 has been allocated to Manicaland, as part of the over US$1,5 million set aside for the country’s 10 provinces.

The allocation is subject to review and increases over time.

As part of the programme, a solarised borehole and a new house, built for one of the war veterans, will be officially launched.

The Presidential War Veterans Fund has already been launched in other provinces.
