Greenhorns, Mambas Volleyball Ladies, started their maiden Zimbabwe Premier League campaign on a low, falling to a devastating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manyame Falcons, at Morris Deport grounds over the weekend.

However, despite the loss, Mambas’ head coach, Prisca Mhuru, feels her charges are in the right direction considering that this is their first national league appearance since its establishment last year.

“So far, the result is not really important because we are still getting into our groove, but I am very pleased with the way they played. Despite all the pressure, they were able to take instruction and stick to the game plan,” she said.

The gaffer said the team need to focus on improving their mental strength if they are to survive the high-level competition.

Owing to the narrow defeats in all their sets, she feels the team is physically fit.

“They came here as underdogs and obviously that had a lot of pressure on them, they were afraid of the opponent so at first they were tense, but along the way I noticed some positive changes which means we are getting somewhere,” she said.

“We fell narrowly in all our sets, and that says a lot about our fitness and potential as a team.

“Now we revert to the drawing board, and look more into our mental strength as a team because at this level of competition, it is all mind games.”

Mhuru called for more friendly games for her charges to timely acclimatise to the high-level competition.
