NEW: Malaria kills over 156, but incidence decline

Malaria claimed 156 lives from the 94 013 cases recorded since the beginning of the year, but the incidence continue to decline.

According to data from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central provinces are the most affected, accounting for 84 percent of the burden.

“Overall, national malaria incidence declined by 93 percent over the past two decades.

“The incidence declined from 136 per 1000 population in 2000 to 9 cases per 1000 population in 2021.”

In Zimbabwe, malaria transmission typically increases from November to May, with peak transmission between February to May.
