RENOWNED gospel singer and preacher Respina Patai – known in music circles as Mai Patai – will release a new six-track album titled “Watch and Pray” on July 30.
The songs include “Ndinonyengetera”, “Handikundikane”, “Musandisiye”, “Settle my Matter”, “Chi Chandingatye” and “Mwanakomana”.
Mai Patai announced her arrival on the gospel scene with her debut album “Rumbidzwai” in 2002, which carried the hit song “Mazambara.”
Mai Patai said her latest offering is a mixed bag of entertainment, preaching and education.
“If you sit down and listen to tracks like ‘Chi Chandingatye’ and ‘Mwanakomana’, you can be tempted to dance.
“On the other hand, the songs ‘Ndinonyengetera’ and ‘Settle my Matter’ are emotionally touching and result in someone confessing his or her sins,” she said.
A pastor with the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM), Mai Patai also adds an entertaining dimension to her music.
“As a pastor, I cannot always bombard my congregants with serious matters. There is need for the congregants to refresh their minds and as a result, I mix preaching with entertainment.”
The new album will mark the musician’s two-decades involvement in gospel music.
“For me, it has been a long, fruitful journey. I am very grateful to my husband, Ephraim, who helped me grow in the music industry to be what I am today. I would also want to thank my fans for being there for me in good and bad times.”
