THE Lock brothers, Benjamin and Courtney, have described their Algerian Open conquest last week as a surreal experience, and this was largely due to the huge Zimbabwean presence that was on hand to watch them play.

Leading the charge of fans and onlookers was Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Algeria, Vusumuzi Ntonga, who also presented the duo with their trophy after emerging 6-1, 6-7, 10-3 victors over the pair of Robin Bertrand of France and Switzerland’s Mirko Martinez.

It was the second meeting between the two teams in as many weeks, with Bertrand and Martinez winning the previous meeting 6-1, 4-6, 6-10.

“We are very happy with the result after losing to the same opponents the week before.

“The competition level at the tournament was very good and attracted international players from all over the world,” said the winning duo.

“It was on clay, it was very slow and hot, but we have been playing very well on this surface and have already picked up two clay court titles.

“We are very comfortable on the surface, and we are happy with our performances so far.”
