NEW: Hwange expansion: First unit set for commissioning

The first additional power-generating unit of Hwange Power Station (HPS) expansion project – Unit 7 – will be commissioned in November this year, adding 300MW to the grid, the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) has confirmed.

Cumulatively, the two units under construction will add 600MW to the grid upon completion.

In a statement on Twitter, ZPC said: “The expansion project is a US$1,5 billion project which officially commenced in August 2018.

“It is set to add 600MW onto the national grid, with the first unit (Unit 7) to be commissioned in November 2022.”
