HARARE City Council has told property owners and business operators in the central business district (CBD) to repaint their buildings as part of measures to reclaim the capital’s ‘Sunshine Status’.

Property owners have also been urged to spruce up the front spaces of their properties.

In a statement on Friday, acting Harare Mayor Councillor Stewart Mutizwa, said this is part of plans for the city to achieve World-Class City Status by 2025.

“The Sunshine City has the vision to achieve a world-class city by 2025 and this vision can only be achieved with the full participation of residents, business and other stakeholders. This is part of our re-engagement with stakeholders.

Councillor Mutizwa said there is a provision in the city by-laws to hire contractors on behalf of building owners in the event that they fail to spruce up the buildings.

“If we are to apply that, the cost would be borne by the owners. This route is however not in the best interest of our engagement thrust and confidence building,”

“Council is on the forefront of calling people to visit Harare and our tourism receipts can only grow when all parties are playing their part and a beautiful and well-manicured Harare will certainly be the destination of choice for both tourism and investment.”
