A Harare man has taken legal action against his younger brother, seeking a peace order over allegations of death threats and physical assault.

Pegan Chidhakwa appeared before the Harare Civil Court on Wednesday filing for a peace order against Craig Chidhakwa.

Pegan claimed that Craig’s behaviour has become increasingly erratic and violent.

“I am scared for my life and that of my nephew,” said Pegan.

“He threatened to kill us and I believe he is capable of carrying out his threats.”

He further alleged that despite covering Craig’s school fees and taking care of him since their mother’s passing, he shows no respect.

In response, Craig acknowledged the allegations of violence but argued that the conflict stemmed from a dispute over their late mother’s belongings.

“The problem started when my nephews began destroying my late mother’s property,” said Craig.

“I wanted them to stop using her belongings, but my elder brother took their side.

“I didn’t have an altercation with him, but with my nephews. He is the one who removed me from the main house and forced me to move into our father’s cottage.”

Presiding over the matter, magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam ordered Craig to refrain from harassing or intimidating his elder brother.

She emphasised the need for peace and respect within the household.
