Government has lifted Zebra Kiss bus company’s suspension with immediate effect after the company complied with corrective measures, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona said on Thursday.

Zebra Kiss and Rimbi Tours had their operating licences suspended last week after a video emerged of two buses driving negligently, resulting in the latter being involved in a fatal accident along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online on the sidelines of the ongoing National Road Safety Indaba in Harare, Minister Mhona said Zebra Kiss has been given the green light to resume operations.

“We had simply suspended them and we highlighted certain issues that were of concern, which means that it was a matter of compliance, checking and re-aligning,” he said.

“We also considered that this issue was a major concern to the public, hence we had to move with speed in handling it. And Zebra Kiss has complied.”

Rimbi Tours has, however, taken Government to court over the suspension.

The company remains suspended.

“We have to wait and let the courts finish first then we take it from there,” said Minister Mhona.

“Further, conditions were that those who comply first would also be allowed to continue using the same route, which therefore means that Zebra Kiss carries on (using) with the route.”
