The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has disbursed US$7.5 million and ZWG100 million to wheat farmers in the past week, bringing total payments to US$18 million and ZWL215 million.
In a statement released today, GMB chief executive officer Dr Edson Badarai said the payments are a significant step towards clearing outstanding obligations to farmers who delivered their wheat harvest.
“The Board greatly appreciates all the efforts being put in place by Treasury to mobilise resources to clear outstanding farmer obligations,” said Dr Badarai.
GMB, he said, is committed to supporting farmers and ensuring food security in Zimbabwe.
“As the country gears towards wheat-based food self-sufficiency, the Board fully recognises the resilience and undoubted commitment and dedication of our farmers.
“GMB continues to play a key role in the agricultural value chain and transformation agenda to ensure food security for the country,” said Dr Badarai.
