ZIMBABWE’S senior netball team has been drawn in the same group as global powerhouse Australia at next year’s Netball World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa. On Wednesday, the Gems were placed in Group A, where they are joined by the Australia, Fiji and Tonga.

The global netball showcase is slated for July 28 to August 6.

England, Malawi, Scotland and Barbados are in Group B, while Jamaica, South Africa, Wales and Sri Lanka make up Group C.

Defending champions New Zealand will take on Uganda, Trinidad and Tobago, and Singapore in Group D.

The top two teams from each group will proceed to the knock-out stages.

Meanwhile, two South African corporate giants – Spar and Telkom – have joined World Netball and Netball South Africa (NSA) as the official sponsors of the 2023 Netball World Cup.

The two companies are known for their unwavering support for netball in South Africa.

Spar is actually the major sponsor of the national team.

“We are very proud of our association with these two companies, and delighted that they will be premier sponsors of NWC2023,” said NSA president and NWC2023 board member Cecilia Molokwane

“Their domestic sponsorships have been crucial to the development of netball in South Africa from grassroots to the national team, and we believe it is important for them to be part of the first Netball World Cup to be played in Africa.”
