Government has extended testing for ex-Wenela miners, who are due for compensation from their former employers, to all the country’s 10 provinces.

Following the recent testing and registration of prospective beneficiaries in Harare, vetting teams will be in Masvingo between October 15 and October 19.

They will spend two days in Masvingo urban before proceeding to Chiredzi District.

In a statement on Tuesday, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Permanent Secretary Mr Simon Masanga said all ex-Wenela workers should avail themselves for assessment.

“The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare in partnership with the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) will be testing for pneumoconiosis and silicosis, as well as the registration of the ex-Wenela mine workers.

“This is being done to assist the ex-Wenela workers to get their compensation from South African mining companies,” he said.

Families of late ex-Wenela workers have been told to bring all the paperwork they have in their possession to submit claims.

The mobile testing and registration is being carried out in phases in all provinces.

Venues for the Masvingo leg are Mucheke Stadium (October 15-16) and Chigarapasi Bar, Chiredzi (October 18-19).
