FORGOTTEN former CAPS United and Liga Muculmana forward Eusebio Manwere believes Mozambique is a viable route for Zimbabwean players itching to play in Europe, especially Portugal.
The 36-year-old Manwere has retired from the game and is now in charge of a Maputo-based football school, Sport Light Academy.
A former Zimbabwe national team fringe player, Manwere played for Maxaquene soon after leaving CAPS United in 2007, Liga Muculmana and USD Songo of Mozambique before hanging up his boots.
His short trial stint in Portugal also opened up links with some European agents whom he has kept in touch with.
He now believes Mozambique could be a viable route for Zimbabwean players wishing to play in Europe.
“I have been staying in Mozambique for almost 15 years now and I can say this is my second home now,” said the Mufakose-bred Manwere.
“The need to promote young talent pushed me into starting this academy in Mozambique, where I am working with scores of young boys ranging from Under-13 to Under-19.
“I have established a lot of contacts here in Mozambique where I work with various clubs, especially those that I played for, like Liga Muculmana and Songo.
“I also have links in Portugal which can be very useful for players back home wishing to try their luck there.
“I have since discovered that Mozambique can be another viable route for our players wanting to play in Europe other than the traditional way of first playing in the South African Premiership.”
He mostly works with Mozambican players but recently facilitated a move for Tinashe Zulu, who is being assessed at Liga Muculmana.
“I took Tinashe (Zulu) from Mufakose and brought him here to Mozambique after I was told of his talent. He is now at Liga Muculmana trying to settle.”
