As schools are set to open this coming Tuesday, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is prioritising health and safety in light of the Mpox concerns.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, the ministry’s spokesperson Mr Taungana Ndoro said they were implementing awareness campaigns in collaboration with health authorities to ensure that schools were well informed about preventive measures.
“Covid-19 taught us how to implement standard operating procedures (SOP) in the advent of communicable diseases, therefore, we stand ready to implement our SOPs which we did not abandon entirely,” said Mr Ndoro.
He said the ministry was focusing on teacher school preparedness as schools gear up for the new term.
“We have been conducting training sessions to equip teachers with the necessary skills and resources for the upcoming term. This includes professional development workshops centred on effective teaching strategies and classroom management,” he said.
