Harare residents should brace for a dry weekend, following an announcement by the Harare City Council (HCC) of plans to shut down Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Works and Warren Control Pump Station on Friday to allow maintenance works.

Residents have been urged to use water sparingly during this period.

The maintenance works are expected to be complete by Sunday.

In a statement on Thursday, HCC acting town clerk, Engineer Phakamile Moyo, said the works are expected to improve the mechanical performance of the pumps installed at Warren Control.

“Please be advised that there shall be a shutdown of Morton Jaffray and Warren Control Water Works on Friday 3 to Sunday 5, December 2021 to allow for works to be carried out at Warren Control Pump Station and on the new line that will supply Hopely,” he said.

“The shutdown will enable the department to undertake repair works at three points on trunk mains to reduce physical water losses currently obtaining in the system.”
