HUNDREDS of Domboshava residents last week thronged the Domboshava Mediclinic where they were given free dental screening sessions, as part of the belated commemorations to mark World Oral Health Day.

Each year, March 20 is dedicated to raising global awareness of the issues around oral health and the importance of oral hygiene.

Some of the residents, however, bemoaned the high costs associated with dental care and treatment, which they said is beyond the reach of many.

“Last time I consulted a dentist after two of my teeth fell off, the dentist asked for a minimum of US$150, which was to cater for the cheapest tooth replacement option. I do not have such kind of money and if I had it, I would have rather bought a cow rather than buying false teeth,” Enias Munemo, a local resident who attended the free screening sessions, said.

Dr Farayi Shakespeare Moyana, one of the dentists who conducted the screening sessions, advised those in attendance to adopt preventive strategies when dealing with oral health issues.

“When it comes to oral health, prevention is better than cure. Periodic check-ups can save us both money and time,” Dr Moyana said.
