FIVE Zimbabwean media professionals underwent training in China in July as part of the Asian giant’s capacity-building and exchange programme.

This was done under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework, which seeks to provide training programmes for African media professionals.

The media professionals were part of a group of 33 students from various African countries.

Training covered several areas, including understanding how the contemporary Chinese media industry works.

At the Jinhua Media Centre in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, Hu Falin, the Deputy Director of the General Editing Office, shared his vision for creating a comprehensive media platform that combines traditional and new media channels.

“We aim to build a financial media platform that integrates all forms of media, providing a one-stop service for our audience,” he said.

“Our goal is to enhance public opinion guidance and influence through effective news dissemination.”

The Jinhua Media Centre, a model for futuristic African media, has made significant strides in media integration, launching the Golden Color Cloud Client, a leading new media platform that combines news, radio, television, and internet services.

The platform has attracted widespread appreciation from netizens and has become a model for media integration in China.

Hu emphasised the importance of getting close to the people and exploring new areas and tracks of media integration.

“We need to bring more vivid and interesting content to our audience, making them the protagonists of the news,” he said.

He also highlighted the centre’s efforts in institutional integration, editorial integration, personnel integration and operational integration.

“We have broken down barriers between different departments and platforms, achieving a seamless integration of resources and personnel,” he said.

Professor Huang Zhonguin, Vice Dean of the School of Art at Zhejiang Normal University, also emphasised the importance of development communication for media outlets.

“A media company, no matter its government owned or a private entity, must be eager to promote its history and culture,” Huang said.

“Development communication is vital in every media outlet. Without information on developments, you will be destroying your country’s values.”

The young media professionals left the tour with a deeper understanding of the Jinhua Media Centre’s innovative approach to media integration and its potential to shape the future of media development in China.

A participant, Abel Karowangoro, a Zimbabwean journalist representing Ruzivo Media & Resource Centre said: “I’m impressed by the Chinese commitment to sharing their expertise and resources with African countries.

“In my work, I’ll consider exploring ways to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration with our counterparts from China.”
