SUNGURA doyen Alick “Baba Sharo” Macheso is set to resume live shows this Saturday after a short break.

The decorated composer and singer will headline a family show dubbed “The first Gig of the Year 2023”, which is set to be held in Chitungwiza.

The event will also feature Freeman and Progress Chipfumo.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, Baba Sharo said he feels rejuvenated after the much-needed annual break.

His manager and publicist Tich Makahamadze added that taking breaks in January was a norm they inherited from yesteryear stars.

“It is not like there is no business in January. We can still host shows and attract good crowds. However, we have decided to always use January as our breaking period.

“We are following in the footsteps of veterans of the industry that came before us, the likes of the late Leonard Dembo, System Tazvida and John Chibadura. They all used to take a break around this time of the year,” he said.

“This coming weekend (on Saturday) we are kick-starting the 2023 calendar with a family show in Chitungwiza.”

Other artistes that will be part of the gig include Cello Culture, Juntal and Chimurenga singer Kurai Makore.
