A suspected armed robber who was part of a gang that allegedly killed a Domboshava man in October last year appeared in court on Friday charged with murder.

Kudakwashe Kaminza (21) was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda for the murder of Frank Mupfava.

Prosecutor Mr Thomas Chanakira told the court that on October 21, at around 3am, Kaminza – who was in the company of Wilfred Munetsi, Charles Chirara (one of the suspected robbers killed after attempting to raid the home of ex-detective Joseph Nemaisa in December), Tatenda Murimbe and Washington Hamandishe – knocked at Mupfava’s bedroom door in Domboshava purporting to be police officers.

Mupfava refused to open the door.

He, however, opened the window to alert neighbours by calling out for help.

Kaminza allegedly jumped on top of the bonnet of a pickup that was parked close to the bedroom window and produced an AK 47 service rifle before firing randomly into the bedroom.

The gang then broke a burglar bar to gain entry.

Whilst inside the room, the gang assaulted Mupfava and his wife with a machete and knobkerrie all over the body demanding cash.

Fearing for their lives, the wife surrendered US$2 800 cash to the armed robbers and the gang fled from the scene with other valuables, including Mupfava’s cellphone.

When he tried to follow them, he was shot several times all over the body and died on the spot.

The gang managed to escape with the loot.

On January 12, 2022, a team from Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide followed leads and arrested  Kaminza with the help of the Army Special Investigations Branch.
