THE stage is set for the Rainbow Netball League (RANL) 2024 awards night to be held at a glitzy ceremony in Borrowdale.

Scheduled for February 1, the ceremony will honour and celebrate teams that excelled in the Pickglow sponsored league last season.

Players who did well individually will be rewarded for their outstanding contributions throughout the season.

The awards night will be preceded by an elective annual general meeting, which will be hosted at High Achievers Coach International Academy earlier on that day to select new leadership.

Anifa Luya is a sure bet for the 2024 “RANL Player of the Year”, having registered 13 Player of the Match recognitions to her name in the season.

Ordinarily, since the first edition of RANL awards in 2018, the player with the highest number of Player of the Match recognitions claims the ultimate prize.

This makes the 21-year-old Flow Angels star the frontrunner for the prestigious top individual reward.

If she secures the prize, Luya will make history by becoming the first player to win the prestigious accolade in her second season in the elite league.

On second place is Glow Petroleum Queens’ Prudence Sibanda, who recorded 12 recognitions to her name, while Ammackela Phiri of Golden Valley is the second runner-up with 10.

Correctional Queens veteran shooter Tafadzwa Mawango is the favourite for the Golden Hand gong with 1 802 goals to her name, while Amanda Ncube of Mthala sits second with 1 673.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Queens outfit Correctional Queens will be crowned champions, breaking Glow Petroleum Queens three-year championship-winning streak.

This time, Glow settled for silver.
