THE 2022 Southern African Development Community (SADC) High- Level Tripartite Dialogue workshop kicks off in Victoria Falls on Tuesday, with President Mnangagwa expected to grace the official opening of the two-day event.
Running under the theme “Labour Migration Governance in the SADC region”, the workshop will see delegates from the 16 SADC member states share, propose and make recommendations on good practices for labour migration governance among member states.
Communication and advocacy officer in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Ms Respect Chofamba said preparations for the workshop were at an advanced stage.
“The organising committee has done much of the detailed work and has toured the venue, which is being set up for this high-level workshop,” she said.
“The workshop will also dialogue on labour migration governance progress, gaps and challenges as well as main opportunities to consider in the SADC region.”
Participants for the workshop include ministers and permanent secretaries responsible for labour and employment, migration and foreign affairs from SADC.
“The event will also be attended by two high-level representatives of employers’ organisations from each of the SADC countries, from the private sector forum, workers’ organisations and Southern African Trade Union Coordination Council (SATUCC),” she added.
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), SADC, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will also be represented.
SADC is currently spearheading efforts to combat the scourge of transnational organised crime, particularly human trafficking, irregular migration and migration snuggling.
