Government has launched an additional 13 Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories at schools in Masvingo as part of its quest to achieve a digital economy and a knowledge society for all Zimbabweans.

Among the beneficiary schools were Mshawasha West Secondary, Bere High, Magombedze Secondary, Chirichoga High and Mushadike Secondary.

Addressing guests at the launch of Mushandike Secondary computer lab on Monday, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere said Government will ensure that no one and no place is left behind in the digital revolution.

“In terms of the national ICT Policy that focuses on ensuring that no one and no place will be left behind, this is part of the national development strategy, which mainly focuses on ensuring that there is inclusivity.

“We want to bridge the rural and urban digital divide to ensure that as we journey towards Vision 2030, every citizen of this country should be digitally empowered,” he said.

Minister Muswere said every school and community will benefit from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz)’s Universal Services Fund.

“The Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Master Plan is one of the key blueprints that is going to transform the macroeconomic landscape of this country,” he added.

Potraz director-general Dr Gift Machengete it was now up to the benefitting schools and communities to also play their part through safeguarding all ICT infrastructure from theft and vandalism.
