The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA) and the Vukarhani Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Wednesday to combat human trafficking.

During the signing of the MoU, Prosecutor-General, Justice Loyce Matanda Moyo, said: “To combat human trafficking effectively, we need a comprehensive and collaborative approach that involves Government, the criminal justice delivery sector, social services, NGOs, and the community at large.

“We must strengthen our laws and enhance investigative and prosecutorial capabilities to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.”

Vukarhani Trust executive director, Mr Gerald Shirichena said: “The signing of the MOU signifies a pivotal moment in the fight against this heinous crime.

“Human trafficking is a vile crime that affects millions of people worldwide, including Zimbabwe and the rest of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.”

The MOU outlines areas of cooperation, including information sharing, joint investigations, capacity building and victim support.

By joining forces, the NPA and Vukarhani Trust aim to enhance their effectiveness in prosecuting traffickers, providing comprehensive support to survivors, and raising awareness about the issue at national and regional levels.
