BUDDING musician Masa Caroleen believes her debut album ‘Pamusoroi’ will make a big impression in the cutthroat male dominated music industry.

Masa, real name Caroleen Nqobile Masawi, intends to leave a mark in the industry.

Her album was launched on August 3 at Jasen Mhepos Little Theatre in Harare.

“I have a band of five members and we have been together for about five years. I strongly believe my time is now and the album will prove it,” said Masa.

The upcoming afro-fusion artiste said she values culture, which explains her album’s cultural theme.

‘Pamusoroi’ can be loosely translated to ‘excuse me’.

“The name of the album was inspired by our Shona culture. I remember when we were young, we used to say ‘‘pamusoroi’’ to our elders as a sign of respect.

“So in a way, the tittle means excuse me people, kindly listen to what I have to say as I am coming into the picture,” she said with a chuckle.

The soothing album, which is inspired by real life stories, is composed of 10 tracks.

These include “Ndiwe”, “Paye”, “Wandigona”, “Ndega”, “Nzelo”, “Tochema”, “The River”, “Dai Ndiri Shiri”, “Haagare” and “Mazhet”.

“I’m mostly inspired by other people’s tales. These can be friends, family or strangers. I’m mostly driven by what they think but are not comfortable to say,” revealed the songbird.

Masa collaborated with Mwenje Mathole, Othnell Mangoma and Reverb7 on the Trust Samende and Tamie Bimha produced album.

The album is easy to the ear and the budding songbird is certainly on to something.

The aspiring singer quit her profession in the hospitality industry to pursue music full time.

“I decided to quit my job in 2018 in order to pursue my music career. I started performing in 2014 after college. It started as a hobby an l would perform at Book Café’s Open-Mic-Sessions and at German society.

“Then the passion for music grew bigger and I could not hold back anymore. I joined The Success Band and that marked the beginning of my journey,” recounted Masa.

However, the singer said the music industry is a bit harsh and requires patience. She said some promoters give raw deals to upcoming artistes as they prefer working with established ones.
