POLICE outfit Black Mambas had a perfect start to their Northern Region Division One season when they overcame visiting Karoi United at Morris Depot yesterday.
The hosts struck through Archford Nyamajiwa on the hour mark before Evidence Dhala added the insurance goal six minutes later.
Despite having watched his side failing to convert clear-cut chances, Mambas coach John “Toto’’ Ncube was happy to see his charges collect maximum points in the opening match of the campaign.
“The game was tough but at the end of the match, I am very happy about the three points we have collected.
“In the first half, we wasted a lot of scoring opportunities, but I am happy about the way they played in the second half, and we managed to control the game and we managed to get those two important goals,” he said.
“We had a gameplan of making sure the boys press hard in the final third for goals.”
Despite watching his charges lose, Karoi United coach Levison Selous was full of praise for his team.
“The boys played well and it was not an easy game. Black Mambas is a giant when it comes to the NRSL.
“I think I have a good team that will cause problems in the future looking at their ages.
“The oldest is actually 24.
“We did not have enough time to prepare for this game; we only had two weeks of preparing.
“Black Mambas caused us a lot of threats through their crosses and we failed to contain them, and all the goals came from the blind side,” he said.
Elsewhere, ambitious Simba Bhora also got off to a flying start when they overcame Golden Eagles at Wadzanai Stadium in Shamva.
Simba Bhora got their goals through Tinashe Balakasi, Ishmael Nyanhi and Nicholas Alifandika.
There was no winner though in the match between Trojan Stars and Commando Bullets, which ended goalless at Trojan Mine in Bindura.
