The tombstone of Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku’s late wife — Sheila — was unveiled yesterday at Chishawasha Mission Cemetery.

Mrs Chidyausiku passed on in 2009 at the age of 61. She succumbed to diabetes-related complications at the Avenues Clinic in Harare.

She was the country’s first black qualified physiotherapist.

Mrs Chidyausiku was described by relatives and friends as a hard-working professional who always had the people at heart.

Born in 1948, Mrs Chidyausiku joined the Jairos Jiri Association as a rehabilitation officer before proceeding to University of Birmingham to study physiotherapy on a scholarship from the Jairos Jiri Association.

In 1981, she joined the Ministry of Health as the first black qualified physiotherapist.

At the time of her death, she was in charge of the then Ministry of Health and Child Welfare rehabilitation unit.

She is survived by her husband, outgoing Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku, and four children.
