SUNGURA music king Alick “Baba Sharo” Macheso will today host a family gig at Club Las Vegas in Southerton, Harare.

The Orchestra Mberikwazvo band leader and Red Cross Society humanitarian ambassador bounced back on stage a few weeks ago after a Covid-19-induced long break.

The show, which is starting at 2pm, is expected to be graced by families.

Organiser of the gig and joint proprietor Itai Motsi said strict health protocols and guidelines will be observed during the  event.

“It has been a while since Macheso performed for families in this area, particularly Southerton. The event is designed specifically for fans that want to come with their children and enjoy top-class sungura without any worries,” said Motsi.

“We have a big open space that is conducive for a family outing. Besides, this is Macheso’s home when performing in Harare. The open space is covered with a roof, thus there are no rain fears. Also, Covid-19 protocols will be strictly adhered to.”

Macheso will be supported by the once-popular Lady Storm — real name Lyn Magodo — who featured on one of Jah Prayzah’s videos as Eriza.

“As usual, we are making sure that we have everything for everyone. I encourage families to come and enjoy the afternoon with their stars . . . We have had a cordial working relationship with Macheso and we intend to maintain it.”

Macheso’s manager Tich Makahamadze said the gig was important for them.

“It has been a while since we mingled with the band’s fans. We are delighted to have this opportunity to meet with families at Club Las Vegas. We have performed there before and it is a good venue.

“Mdara (Macheso) will be sampling new tracks from his forthcoming album. This is a must-attend show. However, I would like to urge our fans to observe all Covid-19 protocols,” he said.

Tryson in new ventures

Dendera crooner Tryson Chimbetu is working on new videos that are set to be released on the market soon.

In the past week, the musician has been shuttling between Harare and South Africa, where some of the shooting is taking place.

“Yes, I can confirm Tryson is working on new projects that include videos and songs. He was recently in South Africa for shooting and will be going back again soon,” revealed the singer’s manager, Shepherd Machakanja.

Tryson recently released a remix of his monster hit “Chihera” with the accompanying video.

As has become the norm with the singer’s recent compositions, the track is laden with modern sounds.

It is not the traditional dendera beat, yet it is still fascinating.

“His music is a response to market trends and demands. When fans speak, we listen. We have a lot of interesting stuff that we will soon be unleashing,” said Tryson’s manager.

“We have made a conscious decision to invest in music videos as they are a better way of communicating our music to the people.”
