SUNGURA maestro Alick “Baba Sharo” Macheso will today hold his first gig of the year at Club Las Vegas in Southerton, Harare.

The family gig, dubbed “First Show of The Year”, is scheduled to start at 2pm.

The event organiser and joint proprietor, Itai Motsi, said he felt honoured to have been given the privilege to host the sungura king’s opening show in 2022.

“Macheso is a brand and every promoter would certainly want this opportunity. I feel honoured to be kick-starting his 2022 live show calendar,” said Motsi.

“We have a cordial working relationship with Macheso that stretches back and this gesture proves our rapport is still going strong.

“Club Las Vegas is more like his home in Harare in terms of live performances. We have been thoroughly preparing for the gig.”

Motsi said strict Covid-19 protocols and guidelines will be observed.

He also encouraged the sungura singer’s fans to come early for the event.

“We are in unusual times. There is a curfew that we need to observe, thus the show is starting and ending early so that we give revellers time to travel back home without breaking the law,” he said.

“Let me also take this opportunity to emphasise that this is a family show and we expect to see parents with their children. We want this to be a memorable day for everyone.”

He further added that revellers should not be worried about the rains.

“The open space is covered with a roof, thus there are no rain fears. Both the band and revellers will be sheltered. Also, we have a standby generator to guarantee uninterrupted power supply.”

Macheso’s manager Tich Makahamadze said the band was raring to go.

“We took a break just after the festive season, but it is now all systems go. The group (Orchestra Mberikwazvo) is intact and ready to deliver.

“We are starting the year with a family show. As usual, the band will deliver their best,” said Makahamadze.

The “Madhau” hitmaker is expected to sample new songs from his forthcoming album that many expected to have been released last year.

“Work is in progress and the project is being perfected. I know our fans want something new. Let me assure them that mdara (Macheso) is working on it.”
